Seeking any information on Daniel McDermott (b. abt May 1843). His parents are listed as Patrick McDermott and Bridget. He married Mary Ohara (b. abt 1846). They had at least 6 children. Anna - abt 1871, Mary - abt 1875, John P. - abt 1879, Elizabeth - abt 1885, Margaret- 7-14-1885, Daniel - abt May 1888.
They settled in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA. Two obituaries mention that they were from County Leitrem, but no townland or parish is mentioned. I am from Massachusetts and would appreciate any help that I can get. Margaret is the only child with an exact date of bith. Could that information be useful in narrowing the research down to a specific town? I know that there are many microfilms available, but I don't know which ones to order.

I looked here: http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/

Try the search facility there. You'll see that Daniel and Mary were married in Leitrim in 1869.

If you want to find this record yourself, you could first look at the 1869 marriage index to find what volume (there were 20 each year) of the marriage records holds the record for Daniel and Mary. There would be a film for that volume.

Or you could ask the Leitrim Genealogy Centre [leitrimgenealogy@eircom.net] to look it up for you. They would charge you 20 Euros.

Did your Daniel have a sister by the name of Bridget. I am looking for a Bridget McDermott who married a Myles McKeon in Leitrim.. Their son, Francis(My great grandfather)came to St. Louis around 1870 or so. Any information you have would be helpful.
Thanks,
Maggie
