William Ritchie born abt. 1846 married Margaret Blair born abt. 1849
and lived in Manorhamilton, Co.Leitrim where five of their seven children were born before emigrating to Ontario, Canada in 1871.
The children were William James, Isabella Jane, Eliza Ann, Margaret Mary, Emily, John and Albert Edward.

Does anyone have any information regarding the Ritchie's in Co.Leitrim or the parents, siblings, etc. of Margaret Blair ?

Lynne in Victoria, B.C., Canada

Dear Lynne, I have Blair connections that lived in the Kinlough, Leitrim area starting with Hamilton Blair, 1788-1883, my gr-gr-grandfather. My gr. grandmother, his daughter, Ellen Blair married William Whitten, the postmaster in Kinlough and they raised their family there. Ellen Blair had a brother Edward, who never married, but the name that interests me in your list is Isabella Jane as they are both family names as is Eliza. However Isabella was a common Scots name. I presume Blair to be Scots in origin. My g-gm Ellen had a sister. Isabella, who married a William Crowe on 23/5/1869. also a daughter Eliza Ann Whitten who apparently married a cousin, Charles Whitten. Think we're related? Sincerely, Joyce Batchelor, Norman, Ok.

Lynne,
I found the births of three of William and Margaret's
children in Manorhamilton in the Civil Registration
birth index. It will make for a long reply, so will
send a separate email.

Hi Joyce -- the naming pattern is interesting. Can't see any connection at the present but will keep your note on file. My only Blair to date is Margaret who married my William Ritchie.
Thanks, Lynne

Hi Tom ~ sorry about the last "message" -- my cat likes to help me
send messages and sometimes gets impatient ! I wanted to say thank you for all the work you have done on my behalf and also to point out that I was in error about the emigration date ... it was 1874 not 1871. Have also sent a separate e-mail.
