Index to Griffith's Valuation of Ireland, done in Roscommon 1857-58
Kilkenny, Anthony County : Leitrim
Parish : Cloone
Location : Annaghmacullen
Did you have any Kilkenny's in Yorkshire in the 1890'ties?

The Anthony Kilkenny at Annaghmacullen is not John's Anthony. The Anthony who was married to Anne Charles was probably from Tooma. The Anthony at Annaghmacullen was married to Margaret Heslin.
However the land which Anthony and Margaret had was only about 200 yards from that part of Tooma where I think Anthony and Ann lived.
Unfortunately the parish records for Aughavas (which cover Tooma) only date from about 1843 so their births won't be found.
I think there were two men in Tooma in 1833 - Thomas and Patrick. In 1857 there were several people. Tom dies 1847 aged 76.
Anthony's son John married Mary Greenan and had several children. One of these, James (Jimmy) born 1911 is still alive and living at Tooma. He married my mother's cousin Pauline who died 1960. |

The LDS British Isles Vital Records set of 16 CDs list the birth of three of their children.
The births of all three were registered in Mohill Registrar’s District.
Mohill Registrar’s District include townlands in three Civil parishes – Annaduff, Cloone and Mohill.
See the Civil parish maps on the Leitrim-Roscommon website.

If you check the LDS films you will find the townland of birth and occupation of the father.
Once you know the townland you can easily find:
the c1833 Tithe Applotment record,
c1850 Griffith’s Valuation,
and the change of occupiers of land from c1850 to c1920.
.
LDS have filmed the baptismal records for Catholic parishes in Mohill Registrar’s District.
For further details check your local library for the Resource County Leitrim CD.
Good luck in your research.

Patrick Kilkenny held 4.5 Irish acres (c 7 statute acres)
Thomas held 24 Irish acres (c 37 statute acres)
Griffith’s Valuation c 1858
Tom Kilkenny held farm and 26 acres
Pat held farm and 16 acres + another 1 acre (and possibly another 15 acres at Drumshanbo North
John held 15 acres of land - no farm here (but possibly elsewhere)
Owen held a house and 19 acres
Bridget held a house and 8 acres
I suggest you get the Valuation records from the Dublin Valuation Office (www.valoff.ie). Give them the name ‘Kilkenny’ and the Townland ‘Tooma’ and they will send you a sort of history of which Kilkenny held what land in the townland over the period from c 1858 to the 1920's It will probably cost c £30 but I have found it is well worth it as you can get some idea of who passed what land onto whom.
