The Ballykilcline Reunion - 2008/CHANGE IN DATES - County Roscommon, Ireland
---------------------------------------------------------
The Ballykilcline Society Reunion Committee would like to announce
that our 8th annual Reunion will be held in Ireland in September or
October, 2008
. Previous announcements had indicated July, 2008, but
due to economic factors (euro versus dollar, high travel season, etc),
we are exploring scheduling the reunion for September or October to
make travel more affordable. All feedback is welcome and requested.
This will be our 4th gathering in Ireland, which has occurred every
three years since 1999. Meetings and events will be scheduled in
and around Ballykilcline, Strokestown, Rooskey, and other Kilglass
parish locations (County Roscommon) and may include possible/optional
events in Dublin. As the information becomes available, we will be
sending announcements
1) through the rootsweb mailing list (see below)
2) by posting on the Ballykilcline website at
http://www.ballykilcline.com
3) and by posting on the Leitrim-Roscommon bulletin board at
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=1

If you haven't already become a member of the Ballykilcline Society,
please email the Membership Chairperson, Patricia Padian, at
ppadian@cox.net for dues information and a membership form. Membership
benefits include 2-4 issues of the Society's newsletter, The Bonfire,
each year, as well as access to our growing collection of records
pertaining to Ballykilcline, surrounding areas in County Roscommon and
more. Suggestions for reunion activities, records acquisitions, and
Bonfire articles are always welcome.

Also, please encourage family members to join the IRL-Ballykilcline
email list at rootsweb as follows:

--- to join IRL-BALLYKILCLINE (you receive individual emails as
they are sent), send mail to IRL-BALLYKILCLINE-request@rootsweb.com
with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body.
--- to join IRL-BALLYKILCLINE-D (digest mode), do the same thing with
IRL-BALLYKILCLINE-D-request@rootsweb.com .

A Ballykilcline facebook group has been started for those of you so
inclined - email ballykilcline@verizon.net for more details on that.

In the meantime, if you have additional questions or suggestions for
the Reunion Committee, please ask by sending an email to
ballykilcline@verizon.net, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Hope to see you in Ireland in September or October 2008!
Go mbeire muid beo ar an am seo aris!

Cassie Kilroy Thompson, President (cassiekt@verizon.net)
Maureen Hanley Cole, Vice President

he reunion committee researched endless possibilities for both a June or a fall 2008 Ireland reunion. Due to the current economy and the decreased value of our American dollar, with many of the costs based on the euro, it was impossible to arrange a program of value worthy of the trip. We have been forced to consider an alternate date in 2009. We are tentatively exploring the last week in June 2009 for the reunion in Ireland, but we are open to suggestions from members regarding the dates. It is our sincere hope that the economy will improve and allow us to plan the quality of trip we have in mind. Watch for the fall newsletter for the exciting details. If you have suggestions (speakers, topics, day trips, etc) and/or are interested in joining the planning committee for the 2009 Reunion in Ireland, please email ballykilcline@verizon.net or call Cassie Kilroy Thompson at 301-854-0864. We look forward to making this reunion worthy of the wait!

During the upcoming year, in addition to planning the Ireland Reunion, we have set a goal to organize and broaden our records aquisitions, in order to make these records more readily available to our members, especially those who are seeking information about their ancestors in the North Roscommon County/Kilglass Parish areas surrounding the Ballykilcline townland. We have begun the process of digitizing a Ballykilcline Family Tree by including the genealogy of our members who are willing to share that information with other members, in particular to look at the inter-marriages of the Ballykilcline evictees and their descendants in the US and else where. If you have suggestions for other records that we should look into, ideas about web page or database access for our records, or you have the talent to help us improve the accessibility of the information held by the Ballykilcline Society, please contact Cassie Kilroy Thompson at cassiekt@verizon.net or 301-854-0864. Any genealogy information that you would like to see included in the Ballykilcline Family Tree should also be sent to Cassie - GEDCOM format is preferred as that can be imported to any family tree software. If you need help getting your information from your family tree program into a GEDCOM format, please email Cassie at cassiekt@verizon.net. GEDCOM files or text files with your family tree information (as well as any photographs that you want attached to the family tree), can be emailed to ballykilcline @verizon.net or mailed to Cassie Kilroy Thompson, 13310 Wicklow Place, Clarksville, MD 21029.
