I am researching my Costello relatives who migrated from Mayo or Roscommon to Abbeydorney, County Kerry. I have the history (brief) from Norman times to settling in Mayo or Roscommon. I found and visited the first castle built by MacCostello near Ballyshannon, Donegal.

I know of the following Costello family. Thomas, age 46 in 1848 Mary, age 45, wife, in 1848 Martin, age 12 Michael, age 14 Pat, age 17 Thomas, age 6 Anne, age 16. This family had tenant land in Ballykilcline, Co. Roscommon, Kilglass Parish up to emigration in 1848 when they left for New York on the ship Channing 13 March,1848. The ages were given to the ship as passengers boarding. Please e-mail me for more information if the dates fit.

Do you have any information about their past geneology? : : It may be impossible, but I would like to trace back to the time of the Normans. : : Priscilla Johnson : In addition: Could it be that part of the family emigrated to America and others left for other parts of Ireland migrating to Galway and Kerry? I would appreciate any information. : Thanks,Priscilla Johnson To: Maureen McDermott Humphreys If you have info on Thomas, age 46, it may help in my search. Do you know the story of Una "Bawn" McDermott? It is a lovely story of one of your relatives. Priscilla Johnson

I am interested in the Costellos because I'm looking for my gg grandmother whose maiden name, I think, was Costello. Mary Ann Parsons was my g grandmother. The records unearthed by a genealogist in this country show that she was born in Ireland in June of 1830, immigrated to the U.S. in 1852, married John Carney on July 1, 1861, had several children, including my grandmother, and died October 5, 1920 in Charleston South Carolina. Her death certificate shows her mother's name as Bridget Parsons (no maiden name given) and her father's Christian name was unknown. Is it possible that you would have information concerning her parentage? My father believes he remembers that she was somehow connected to Mayo County. If there is a probability that you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
