: I have a good number of Callahans in my family who came to Philadelphia in the 1870's and settled in Haverford Township, Delaware County. I would like to find out if they are from County Leitrim originally. I understand the name may have been Kellegher in Ireland but was changed when they came to the US. My mggm was Bridget Callahan. Her brothers were Matthew, Patrick and her sister was Anne. My mggm came in 1870 when she was 12 years old. Any help would be appreciated.

My ggrandf James Grady m.Catherine Callahan(both b.Ireland).They had John,Marguerite & Mary in Irl and Ellen b.1849 NJ & Edmund b.1856 Hoboken,NJ. In a plot at St.Peters Cemetery in Jersey City there's buried Hanora Callahan Grady1896,Catherine Callahan 1857,John Callahan 1883,Catherine Callahan 1883,Peter Callahan 1881. I think Patrick & Catherine Callahan had a John b.1860 d.1883 Hoboken and Cornelius b.1851 d.1927...Patrick's parents were Edward & Catherine Callahan. I suspect my ggrandm Catherine Callahan Grady was Patrick & Hanora's sister.
