LAVIN-LEONARD of Roscommon/Letrim. Searching for info on BERNARD LAVIN ((1820-1865)& ELIZABETH LEONARD (1815/25- 1892,md abt Aug 15, 1841 in the Carrick-on-Shannon area. Parents and four children (Michael, Charles, Bridget& Patrick Lavin -b 1842 to 1849) immigrated to America between 1849-1852 and settled in Elizabeth, Union Co, New Jersey. The parents of Bernard are unknown, but due to the traditional naming pattern, the first-born son Michael was possibly named after his paternal gfather, who would then be MICHAEL LAVIN, born abt 1780-90. The parents of Elizabeth Leonard were PETER & ELLEN LEONARD (b abt 1780-95). The family stayed in Elizabeth for several generations. Children born in New Jersey to Bernard and Elizabeth were: Bernard James, Ellen, John Joseph, Jane, Peter & Elizabeth (born between 1853-63). The family was Roman Catholic. Bernard and his sons were moulders at an iron foundry until late 1800s when they owned businesses in Elizabeth. Married into Dunn, Burns and Nolan families in NJ. Any info would be much appreciated.
