My ggf's brother, Michael Mahon, indicated his birthplace as Gob on his naturalization certificate.  I don't have a clue what he meant.  There are no places called Gob.  There is a Gubb on Lough Allen, but no Mahons show up there.

Michael was the son of Patrick Mahon (or Mahan) and Rose Foley and was born in 1839.  I am most anxious to find out where these folk are from in Leitrim.  My ggf was James Mahon, born ~ 1840 and Frank Mahon born in 1827.  They all came to Worcester Mass in the 1840/1850 time period.

Please e mail me any ideas about Gob or my Mahons.

Response to David Mahon... As you are a native of Mohill, Co. Leitrim, would you have any knowledge of the O'Neill family (Dan and Ellen) living in Cattan. The homeplace is currently run by my uncle Peter O' Neill and my mother was Anne (married to John Maher). I have an aunt Liz in Aughnacliffe (Longford) and the family are not good correspondents! Any help would be appreciated. My mother passed away in 1981. Dan died in 1969 and Ellen in 1959.
