Looking for any information on the Dolan and O'Rourke/Rourke families.

My grandmother was Catherine O'Rourke who came to the USA around 10 yrs of age. She was born5/23/1862 in Ireland. Her parents were Catherine Gleason Rourke and Cornelius Rourke.
She married a James Nicholas Dolan from Marshall, Michigan, USA, who was the son of Owen Dolan and Ellen Mchugh who came from Ireland to Michigan .

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Mary,

Owen is common name.

Here is what I've got:

The Tithe Appointment Books of 1833 show an Owen Dolan occupying 15 acres in Drumrackan. This could have been Michael Dolan's father. There were no Dolans listed in Drumrackan in the 1857 Griffiths Valuation of Tenements.

Michael Dolan was probably born in the 1830s and died before 1863 in Eire. He was probably a farmer.
He married Ann Leydon around 1855. Her birth and death dates are probably similar to Michael Dolan's.
They were from the Townland of Drumrackan, near Ballinamore, in the Parish of Oughteragh, County Leitrim, Eire.

Drumrackan is about 1.2 miles by .6 miles or about 595 acres.
In Celtic it is Druim Bracain or Brackan's Ridge. Various spellings included Drumrackin, Drumracken, Drumbracken, and Drumrockan. In 1835 the Townland contained a number of farm houses, a Danish fort, a portion of moor, and the rest is cultivated.
(Source: John O'Donovan's Placenames of Co. Leitrim 1835)

In 1841 County Leitrim had a population of 155,297. In 1851 it had a population of 111,915.
In 1841 Drumrackan had a population of 144. In 1851 it had a population of 105.
(Source: "Leitrim and the Great Hunger" by Gerard MacAtasney, pub 1997 by Carrick on Shannon Historical Society)

Their children were all born in Drumrackan:
Mary Dolan b: 29 Apr 1856 baptism date
Patrick Dolan b: 26 Oct 1857 baptism date
Patrick Dolan b: 26 Mar 1859 baptism date
Eugene Dolan b: 17 Dec 1861 baptism date
Michael Dolan b: Bef 1863 d: 1938 in Eire

BTW, Eugene and Owen are used interchangably.
