Looking for any links with a Brennan family from Boyle, Roscommon. Father's name was William (a farmer) and son Patrick Joseph was born c. 1889. Married at St. Vincent's R.C. Church, Openshaw in 1916 to Jane Burgess, children: William, Sarah & Kathleen. Patrick may have had links with Connaught Rangers. Does this ring bells with anyone? |

To Members of the Brennan family, I am an American author who spent a month every year for 13 years researching a book on the Irish War for Independence in County Roscommon. There was a very prominent family of Brennans who played a significant role in that fight. They lived just south of the town of Boyle and were farmers. Their sons (Patrick and James Stephen) were the two siblings covered in my book. My Pat Brennan was not in the Connaught Rangers but rather the head the Brigade in North Roscommon of the Irish Volunteers. This may, however, not be the same family in whom you are interested. My name is Connie Brannon. This is my very first entry in a meager attempt to begin my family search. I was told that in immigration that my family name may have been misspelled. I was told that it may have been O'Brennan or Brennan. My father is 83 years old. His name is Firse O'Neal Brannon. His father (deceased) was William Curtis Brannon. I am wondering if anyone knows of our family name "Brannon" and of the origin.
My family settled in Arkansas. I was on another search. I did not plan to do this when I stumbled on your wonderful site.
I have waited long enough. So, I began here. Thanks
Connie Brannon |
