Last August, I visited my cousin Michael's farm in
Derrylahan. It was his father's farm and our grandfather's
and our great grandfather's. Within sight of the farm
they are building new homes on the sight of the old
schoolhouse. Michael said that the school was burned by
the Black and Tan's when the IRA used it as a headquarters
Can anyone tell me anymore about the incident?
I read Kathleen Hegarty Thorne's book and Grenham's
history of Moore parish. Thorne doesnt mention it and
there is just a picture of the ruined school in Grenham's book. |
