Looking for family of Laurence Gillooly who was Bishop of Elphin in the 1800's. I believe the Lanesborough Street address was the family home. His father was also Laurence. Family lore has it that my great grandmother was his niece, Brigid. Married Michael Jourdan of Easky, Sligo. Emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1866. Anyone have info on the family?

Hi Bishop Gillooly was Bishop of Elpin when the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon was built and consecrated in 1903. There is a mosaic of him with the parish priest at the time presenting a replica of the church to Heaven. He was, apparently, born in Gallowstown about a mile from Roscommon town.
The staff in the Parish Office, Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon are very helpful and would be able to fill you in on some details of his life.
Good luck Kristen

Dear Pat, Laurence Gilooly was Bishop of Elphin from 1858-1895 followed by John Clancy, 1895-1912. My ancestor, Bernard Coyne was Bishop from 1913-1926. All three are buried in Sligo Cathedral. Regards Fiona
