: McManus and Kearns of North Roscommon
: My great great grandfather, James McManus, was born
: about 1815 in the North Roscommon area of Ireland.
: I believe he married Elizabeth Kelly there around 1835.
: Both James and Elizabeth are likely to have died during
: the famine of 1847 as my great grandfather,
: John McManus and his brother Thomas, emigrated as young
: boys to County Durham, England - not with James and
: Elizabeth but with people who were not their parents.
: John and Thomas stated in the 1871 Census that they
: were born in Keadue and Ballyfarnon respectively. John
: settled in Crook, Co. Durham with his wife, Bridget
: Kearns. Bridget stated in the 1871 Census that she was
: born in Roscommon. Her parents were Michael and
: Elizabeth Kearns, who were born around 1815 in the
: Roscommon area. In 1869 Bridget left Crook to visit
: Boyle, North Roscommon, where she gave birth to my
: great uncle Thomas before returning to Crook. I have
: been unable to trace other children who may have been
: born to James and Elizabeth and I will be grateful if
: anyone can inform me of any appropriate traces they may
: have.Thank you.
