New Haven, Connecticut in particular was a popular immigration point for those from Leitrim. Does anyone know the history behind it?

I have ancestors that went there in the late 1880s. I was told that a Leitrim man did the hiring for the New haven railroad and he was partial in his hiring practices.

If you are in New Haven go to Sacred Heart Parish and ask to see their records
The Leitrim Names Mulvey, Reynolds , Bohan repeate over and over again
The local Cemetary St Lawrence & St Bernard grave stones have leitrim names and town lands.
In 1949 The New Haven Gaelic Football & Hurling Club was formed.
The founders Jim McGuinness Drumhane Mohill, John Reynolds Cloone, Patrick Bohan Mohill, Sean Scollan Fenagh.
They all came to aunts & uncles who came at the turn of the century.
The Club the formed has 1500 members a football field and hall.
